Openforum Europe (OFE) welcomes last Thursday's vote in the European Parliament on the report on the future of standardization in Europe

Openforum Europe (OFE) welcomes last Thursday's vote in the European Parliament on the report on the future of standardization in Europe, drafted by the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) Committee. It is a valuable and comprehensive overview of the issue of standards and it recognizes the need for essential reform of the current system of standards for the ICT sector.

The IMCO report examines reforms to the standardization process being considered by the European Commission. OFE welcomes its analysis, as well as that of ITRE, the European Parliament committee on Industry, Research and Energy, which added an excellent forward looking perspective to the report.

The report stresses that standards should be comprehensible and easy to use so that they can be better implemented by all users. And it urges standards bodies in Europe to make better use of modern ICT technologies in order to improve access to the standards development and consensus building processes.
