Should there be a single telecoms market in Europe?

Cable - The European Commission fought back against industry criticism of plans for an EU-wide telecoms market this week.

Europe's telecoms sector is "sick", according to EU Digital Commissioner Neelie Kroes, and the cure is a single market - something that would force operators to stick to a more consistent regulatory framework and facilitate cross-border connectivity for a frustrated economy.

This was the argument Ms Kroes put forward at the FT-ETNO Summit in Brussels last week, where she launched an impassioned defence of the EU's 'Connected Continent' legislative package.
